Hello PaweÂł,
Thank you for your email and for allowing us to be of assistance.
We are sorry to hear that you have lost your Notes. In some cases the update may affect your notes. Your notes may be sill be on your hard drive, however the PokerStars may not be finding the file.
First ensure you are properly closing PokerStars when you finish your session, as the notes are saved to disk only when the PokerStars software shuts down.
Now, if your notes do not save despite shutting down the PokerStars application normally, please try to change the folder destination for the notes file.
It is possible that the folder where you are trying to save the notes by default is write protected (for example the "Program Files" folder is often protected).
To fix this, simply go to 'Options' -> 'Player Notes..." and click on 'File Location'. Then set the folder to "My Documents" or similar folder outside of the Program Files folder or the AppData folder.
This will create a copy of the file into the new destination and will continue saving the changes to that destination file.
However, if changing the file location to your Documents folder does not do the trick, it is possible that your file has become corrupt.
After trying out the above suggestion and ensuring that the notes are still not saving, we need to have you provide us with your "notes.user.xml" (where 'user' is your user ID) files found in the PokerStars settings folder, in order to assess this issue.
Here are the steps to do this:
1. Open the PokerStars software main lobby
2. Click on "Help" -> "Open My Settings Folder" (this will open the previous folder location that stores your notes file)
3. Locate "notes.user.xml"
4. Attach the files to an email and send to us for review
Please let us know if any of these steps are unclear or you have troubles locating the correct file.
If you are unable to find the notes file in any of its forms it is likely that the file has been lost.
While we are unable to assist you to recover the lost Notes as they only exist on your computer and not on our servers, therefore if you change computers you will not see any notes you have made on another computer. you can however create a back up of you notes file. Please note that if you are constantly changing your notes you may wish to backup your notes file on a regular basis. Should you lose your notes, you can return to your last saved back up.
To back up your notes file you will need to back up the "notes.user.xml" (where 'user' is your user ID) from the PokerStars software. You may also wish to back up your preferences folder which is the "user.ini" or "User" file (if your folder settings are hiding extensions). To do this simply open the PokerStars software (if possible) and click on "Help" -> "Open My Settings Folder" and locate those files and copy them to a safe temporary location. If you cannot open the software you will need to manually navigate to the settings folder to locate those files.
For Windows Vista and Windows 7 (C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\PokerStars\):
1. Click Start
2. Type the following or copy/paste into the Search and press Enter:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\PokerStars (or PokerStars.NET)
3. Locate "user.ini" or "user", "notes.xml" and "notes.user.xml"
4. Copy the files to a safe temporary location (the desktop is a good choice)
Copy these files to a secure location such as a USB flash drive, an external hard drive or email them to yourself
To restore the saved files, please go to the 'Help' menu and then back to 'Open My Settings Folder', then close PokerStars or the restoration of the backup will not be made and copy the files back into the folder. If you are asked to overwrite any files accept. You should then have no additional problems.
We hope this email finds you well and if there is still anything else we could do for you, please do not hesitate and let us know.
Regards,
Klemen
